FCID interrogates Former Chairman of STC Pradeep Gunawardana
The Police FCID is currently recording a statement from former chairman of the State Trading Cooperation Pradeep Gunawardana.
Police Media spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that Gunawardana was summoned to the FCID on Monday (May 18th) to provide a statement pertaining to an ongoing investigation into irregularities in the importation of Rice and milk powder.

The trial of Gampola Vithanage Samantha Kumara, alias Wele Suda, is currently underway in the Colombo High Court. The case against Wele Suda was filed in connection to the acquiring of property worth Rs 170m through the illegal drug trade.
Meanwhile, a brother of Wele Suda, was arrested in Kohuwala on Sunday (May 17th).
Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said the suspect was arrested near Wele Suda’s residence in Kohuwala. At the time of arrest, the suspect had 2.3 grams of heroin in his possession.
Ravi Karunanayake acquitted in foreign exchange case
Minister Ravi Karunanayake was acquitted in the foreign exchange case at the Colombo High Court after the case was taken up again before Judge Irangani Perera on Monday (May 18).
According to Judge Irangani, the decision was reached upon taking into consideration the objections raised by the lawyers of the defence with regard to anomalies in the indictment produced against Minister Ravi Karunanayake. Justice Perera also said that the Attorney General has the capability to file a case once again and that an appeal could also be filled by the AG, if the need arises.
Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake spoke to the media following the court hearing, saying that the court case which was filed without any proper reason has proven futile. The minister also stated that while he is present at courts for the 27th time with his lawyers, the former defense secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is running away.
Today’s judgement was also the final judgment handed down by justice Irangani Perera as she bid farewell to her service as a judge and retired following 31 years of service.

Former Sri Lanka 400 meters sprint champion Sugath Thilakaratne has been elected as the President of the Sri Lanka Athletics Association (SLAA) for the next two years.
He was elected as the President during the election of office bearers which took place in Colombo bon Thursday (May 14th). Sugath Thilakaratne was elected as the President of SLAA with a majority of 59 votes over Former DIG Upali Kumarasiri.
Sunimal Rupasinghe was elected as the Secretary of the SLAA with a majority of 5 votes while Tonado Jayasuriya was elected as the Treasurer.
Former President of the SLAA, General Palitha Fernando and Former Secretary Prema Pinnawala did not contest this year.

Sashi Weerawansa’s NIC & Passport are forgeries – Police
The Colombo Crimes Division informed the Colombo Magistrates Court today(May 15th) that the passport and National Identity Card of Sashi Weerawansa,  Wife of Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, are forgeries .
CCD Officers noted that the report in this regard has been directed to the Attorney General for the future course of action.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitya postponed the case to the 9th of September.
