Several complaints have been made to the Department of the Registration of Persons about a delay in issuing National Identity Cards for candidates sitting the ordinary level examination this year.
Speaking to News 1st, the commissioner of the department said they had requested that the application forms of all children who are 16 years of age as of Oct. 31 be sent to before March 31.
He added that the number of application forms that they have received thus far are not complete. He noted that have received 225,000 applications thus far although there are nearly 400,000 children who are eligible to apply.
He noted that if the department does not receive the balance applications soon, they will face difficulties in issuing National Identity cards to these students.
“There are certain issues even in the applications we have received. Even though the principal has placed his signature, the official seal has not been stamped. Some have the official seal placed, but the principal has not signed. There are around 2,500 applications that we have received with such issues. Therefore we ask that principals see to these issues and make sure they don’t happen again,” he said.
